PRO Tip: Chainsaw Care & Maintenance

🔧 PRO Tip: Chainsaw Care & Maintenance

Whether gas, corded, or battery — a little care goes a long way!

🪚 Universal Tips (All Chainsaws)

  • Keep the Chain Sharp – A sharp chain cuts faster and safer. Touch up often or have it professionally sharpened.
  • Check Chain Tension Before Every Use – Too loose = derailment. Too tight = bar damage. Adjust so it moves freely but snaps back snug.
  • Bar & Chain Oil Every Time – Never run dry. Proper lubrication extends bar and chain life.
  • Clean the Air Flow Path – Dust, chips, and sap clog filters and cooling vents. Brush or wash them out regularly.
  • Inspect the Bar – Flip it every few uses for even wear. File burrs smooth.
  • Store Safely – Bar cover on, clean of debris, and stored in a dry place away from heat sources.
  • Safety First – Check chain brake, throttle lock, and chain catcher. Always wear helmet, gloves, eye/ear protection, and chaps.

⛽ Gas Chainsaws

  • Fresh Fuel Matters – Use clean, fresh gas with correct 2-cycle mix or premix fuel. Drain tank for long storage.
  • Regular Engine Check – Seasonally inspect spark plug, carburetor, and clutch for peak performance.

🔋 Electric & Battery Chainsaws

  • Care for Batteries – Charge with the proper charger only. Don’t store fully drained or fully charged long-term — ~50% is ideal. Avoid extreme heat or cold.
  • Keep Battery & Connections Clean – Wipe terminals and saw contacts with a dry cloth to prevent poor connections.
  • Let It Cool Before Charging – A warm battery should cool down first to extend its life.
  • Watch the Cord (Corded Models) – Inspect for damage, and only use heavy-duty outdoor extension cords rated for the saw’s amperage.

👉 Regular care means faster cutting, longer tool life, and safer operation.
